A red scalloped tray with gold trim earns its place from Christmas morning to Valentine's Day, which makes it one of the hardest working pieces a coffee table or bar cart can have. The gold edge follows every scallop, and little gold ball feet lift it off the surface, so whatever you gather on it looks deliberate: a pillar candle and a sprig of pine, the season's Christmas cards, or perfume bottles on a dresser. A hostess will put it straight to work, and for the one in your circle who wears red every chance she gets, it is a birthday present with staying power. RAZ Imports finished it in a deep, glossy red that works as well in a traditional room as a modern one.
