In this small log nativity, Mary kneels and Joseph leans close over the manger, all in pale carved polyresin and framed by an oval of tree-ring bark. The scene is small enough to carry to wherever the Christmas story is being read aloud, which makes it the nativity that travels with the book.

In its small size from Ganz, the wood frame carries a pattern of cells and cracks and a darker edge along the top. Open the book to the page and set the family beside it, and the verses go by with a stable of their own to look at. It suits the shopper who wants quiet detail in a figure she can keep close while she reads.
