An angel is drawn straight onto the speckled cream stoneware, a halo above her, wings sketched in fine dark lines and her pale gown scattered with holly leaves and red berries. The vase stands 4 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches across, with a flared rim edged in dark glaze. Mud Pie lists it for decorative use, so style it with a dry sprig of cedar, a faux stem, or nothing at all and let the painting show. It suits a nightstand, a powder room shelf, a windowsill over the kitchen sink, or one at each place setting at Christmas dinner. Small and quietly pretty, it is the gift you bring to a house you do not know well yet.
