A Christmas tree rises in relief across one side of this round stoneware dish, with two gold birds perched in its branches, a gold star at the top and peace on earth lettered in gold script beside it. The rim is finished with a wavy hand-painted gold line. It measures 4 inches across, the right size for rings by the kitchen sink, stud earrings on a nightstand, or paper clips on a desk in December. Hand wash it and keep it out of the microwave. Mud Pie made a small thing worth giving on its own, so it drops into a stocking, goes in the post beside a card, and suits a coworker or a bridesmaid.
