The platter is shaped like the stable itself, a white stoneware silhouette rising to a point with a star at the top and the nativity raised in the surface: Mary, Joseph and the baby in the manger, molded rather than printed so the scene catches the light. A hand-painted gold rim traces the whole outline. It measures 10 1/2 inches by 10 inches, which holds cookies for the neighbors, a wedge of cheese and crackers, or nothing at all on a stand by the front door.
